We advise on using our custom broker/shipping company in RO and their partner shipping company in the UK/US to make this run smoothly.

Shipment must be cargo – not courier etc.

We always advise the clients not to send anything before checking with us! Our custom broker will indicate how and to whom the shipment should be sent.

Non-perishable products – sent by commercial invoice with packing list. Customs duty/VAT will be applied.

Perishable products (food and drinks) come are under special import regulations. Commercial invoice and packing list are required. In addition, shipper must provide veterinary health, analysis, quality & conformity certificates.

How do you bring equipment in?
Temporary import. In such case the company exporting from the UK must have an EORI number and has to provide a pro-forma invoice and a declaration stating that all products are of UK/EU preferential origin. Locally we have to pay a deposit. 100% of the amount stated in the pro-forma. After the re-export to the UK the deposit will be reimbursed. An ATA carnet is recommended to be issued for equipment/goods with higher value. So two options – temporary import or ATA carnet.

How do you import product if perishable or not returning to country of origin?
Same applies here – there is the option for a temporary import – a pro-forma invoice issued by the exporter in the UK and a declaration that all products are of UK/EU preferential origin. The other option is with a permanent import and in such case the exporter from the UK shall provide an original invoice and locally we’ll have to pay custom duties and VAT on that amount.

SOUTH AFRICA

Visa or any other paperwork required to travel in from the UK?
For OVERSIGHT Crew (Production Team, Director, DOP, Photographer, Production Designer, Client & Agency), if you hold a British Passport (or EU / US for that matter) you need only a Letter of Authorisation / FIVA Letter) that takes 48 hours to arrange. Stillking Films will arrange on your behalf.

SPECIALIST Crew/Talent (AD, Technical Crew, Talent) if they are UK passport holders or live in the UK, are currently unable to get an S11.2 visa since the VFS offices in London are not issuing these visa’s currently. USA and rest of Europe have SA embassy’s open for Specialist Crew (S11.2), just UK currently not issuing these.

Since entering South Africa for a commercial shoot requires the paper work discussed above one should declare that you are entering the country to shoot a commercial.

Depends what it is, again, nothing has changed – suggestion is carnet or temporary import. If it’s a perishable or not going back, then there will be import duty fees based on the given value on the proforma.
